Does anyone else think the BSM alert is far too conservative as far as when it alarms when changing lanes? I traded a 2016 CX-5 GT for a 2017 CX-5 GT (couldn't resist the new model). The newer car definitely alarms even though there is no doubt changing lanes is safe and far from cutting off the other driver. I hope that makes sense. I looked through the manual and it doesn't look like there's a way to re-calibrate or adjust the system, but that didn't surprise me.

 

I have the 2018 CX-5 GT which should be the same as your 2017. I can adjust the sesitivity of the BSM under one of the settings in my on dash radio display. I think its under settings. There are three adjustments for the BSM. Low, Medium, and High.

 

Thanks for your suggestion. When I looked at the setting it seems to only affect the volume of the BSM alert.

 

I agree that it seems to be very sensitive. I was getting the alert when I was turning right. The sensor was picking up the 2 ft. snow bank on the right hand shoulder of the road. I also haven't found a way to adjustment the sensitivity, only the volume of the alert buzzer.

I just checked my car again and you guys are right, the setting I was talking about does indeed only adjust the volume of the alert. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

 

I also find my '19 GTR to be overly sensitive. I'm way past the other vehicle before the warning stops.

 

Agreed that it is over-sensitive. Wondering if there will be some software-update for this in the future if there are enough customers complaining.

 

I have had my 2019 Signature trim CX-5 for close to 3 weeks now. I traded in a 2017 CX-3 GT. I can tell you that absolutely the 2019 BSM is noticeably more sensitive.

 

Singular reason it makes the car lose points. Its completely pointless! I'd rather turn it off and go back to using the neck turn.

I wish Mazda can do a software upgrade to fix it. The blind spot is leaving atleast 4-5 cars distance.

 

I've. found mine to be about perfect. A little leeway is a good thing in my experience. No telling if the other guy will suddenly slow down or speed up. The fewer radical neck turns the better for me.
