It's a thing that goes along the bottom of the bumper. I just noticed they'd stuck mine in the trunk yesterday.

Thanks Greg! Is it a body panel support or a stiffener? I wonder if it’ll create any problems with it removed, like rattling or banging. I’m nowhere near my car right now to look for myself.

I never actually stuck my head under there before they installed the hitch so I'm not really sure. It's only held on by those two clips. Knock on wood I haven't heard any noises since they took it off and put the hitch on.

Many of us with aftermarket hitches have removed that little body panel. I am not aware of anyone, certainly not me, noticing any ill effect.

On a side note, while futzing around with the rack I put the first scratch in the tailgate of my new CX5 a few minutes ago!

I have the Allen Sports 542RR-R hitch rack. A really great and sturdy rack overall for the price.
These models is easy to set up and will ensure your bike is secure throughout transportation. Easy to install. Tilt-away design. Individual tie-downs.

The first scratch is so traumatic! But, it does make the rest of them a lot easier! (they all suck though)

Is the factory hitch a 1.25" or 2" receiver?

I have used bike racks from Saris for a long time. They pop on and off very easily/quickly.
