Question Ambient Lighting Options?

2016 cx-5 sport AWD.

wife wish to have some Ambient Lighting in her car. Nothing too bright. Has anyone modded or attached in their cars preferably the cx5? seen a few on amazon where you would stick it near the floor and run the wires to a usb or cig adapter. but looks tacky/cheap.

Haven't seen anything for the CX5, but the MX5 NC (2008-2015) has ambient lighting kits in red. There is a switch that mounds under the steering column to have the lighting only come on when the doors are open or on when the headlights are on. Looks nice in my MX5. This could probably be modified slightly to fit the CX5.

I can't see a illumination kit listed for a 2016 (KE) CX-5, but I did see a kit for a BM Mazda 3. It's wired up to the interior lamp in the roof.

If you got a E-bay kit, you cold also custom fit it & create your own wiring up the "A" pillars and tap into the interior light wiring.

I have the lighting add on in my Mazda3. I think the only purpose was to charge an extra 250.00 for a car that was difficult to find at the time. The light is too dim to be of any value. It is not bright enough to find a cell phone on the floor. I find that I accidentally turn it on once a week or so. I don’t know how long it stays on before I notice the slight glow on our feet.

An aftermarket light would be better if it was bright enough to be of value but not too bright to be a distraction. I suspect it would be easy to install with the openness under the dash.

If if you buy one, make sure you see how bright it is in the dark before it is installed.
