i only buy mazda, toyota, honda and maybe subaru...have had pretty good luck with them as far as reliability and repairs (same with family and friends)...have considered a few US made vehicles in the past but don't trust them to run into higher mileage without major problems...i was looking at a used buick tourx wagon instead of a cx-5/rav4/crv but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger for fear of issues...the cx5 is my 5th car ever at 44 (3rd new)...my aim is to keep that # owned figure as small as possible over my lifetime
There is no data that is empirical to support this. NONE!!!!!
i would think most people know that some or most parts in US car brand manufacturers (as well as others) are made in other countries...

i really don't care if there is empirical data or if there isn't...i'm going with what has worked for myself and those around me (anecdotal) which doesn't require empirical data...served me well thus far in keeping my lifetime # of cars owned on the low end so i think i'll stick with it

Yes but its members on forums like some post on this thread... (hmmm wonder who that is?) that tend to get added to the less then accurate information. You have no depth or numbers to suggest a pattern of any issue regarding makes, model in those makes and years production models >
It would be like me saying that 95% of all non USA brand vehicles are problematic because that is the 500+ vehicles % we service every year. ROLMAO..
Oh on a side note and I have posted this I believe without counting since age 15, I have personally owned and registered in my name or my various company's somewhere between 100+ cars and trucks. LOL And the BS you posted about American vehicles is absolutely total BS! LOL
However I love you responses they are very entertaining please don't stop
Don't worry, we won't Cali.... You can see I am far from alone in my opinion. And I do buy US built vehicles (my Frontier was built in Canton, MS and my BMW was built in Greer, SC) but these are not American brands. I would have bought a foreign made version if it was available (I will always prefer the CX-5 to the CX-50 as the US market CX-5s are all built in Japan). The design, build and quality of parts will differ from a foreign brand vs US. It doesn't make a difference to me where the PARTS come from. I am suspect of the motivation of the Big 3 and their ability to build a reliable car comparable to most foreign makes (I never include Italian cars as they sure look pretty but reliability is never a strong suit). Again, just my opinion.

LOL soooooo you and a couple other are correct because of the number you all agree on. Really dude I didn't think that would come from you? ROLMAO!!! The picture below is for you and other with that comment of yours. lol
You really need to get statistical and as well total production numbers before you keep pot bad info but at least you got one thing correct its your "opinion"!
Keep in mind you and your buddy while you keep comparison other platforms I do try to stay talking about Mazda most of the time (careful you have already shown you don't do math well) unless I need to support other brand because they are being compared inaccurately to (a) Mazda. .
There are companies (JD Power for one) that track factual information for issues, like quality and reliability, for all car manufacturers regardless of where they are made.
For the past 25 years there have been few US branded automakers to get a spot in the "best top 10" and most years they rank below the top 15.
This would seem to correlate with what I and others here have personally noticed.
Until the advent of the Internet these facts were not readily available to the consumer, and we went mostly by word of mouth and experience of our family, friends and local mechanics.
And they were all people who had their own personal opinions on auto brands.
For the past 20 years I've researched my vehicles online to find the best rated ones for what I was looking for, regardless of brand before I tried any of them out.
Not once did any American brand vehicle make the top 10 list and that includes motorcycles.
I did own many US brand autos and really liked some of them, but they ALL gave me serious issues like, transmissions, electronics, brakes and timing chains/belts.
And in my younger years we were always replacing alternators, starters and water pumps.
Like I said those twisted figures are not reality in service shops which imports are top serviced vehicles. But then maybe because the belief based on non-statistical facts even from the sources provided don't use service shops to and that because of those non facts people read them from the internet and but non US manufactured vehicles.
Randomly pick any state and randomly call a service shop and ask them the question.
Do and believe what you all want I guess those that know better...know better.
It is all good. You can argue against it all you want, but when you have actual personal experience as Lobstah has listed in his last two posts, it's kind of hard to argue. I don't need to give specifics (but I did with my links above just for fun) to prove my point.

You can freely and randomly contact any service shop in the US and ask them or you can go on and with your personal thoughts and beliefs. LOL
It really is funny how the internet can influence subject material form those that are not actually on the ground gaining real world intel. Or should I say indigence? lol
The information about service is skewed in more ways than you all can obviously understand. What you think that dealership service departments and independent service shops turn over there service records or fill out surveys. Get a life... LOL
Attainable date for those willing to search and who want to really know (I'm retired and have all kinds of free time).
There are currently 29 million cars and trucks registered in California (doesn't include trailers, motorcycles, mopeds and three wheeled vehicles).
Of the top 25 brands
4,740,756 are US branded
12,187,186 are foreign branded or roughly 3x as many as US branded.
Simple probability of percentages would explain the numbers that service shops would see.
