2023 Mazda CX5 Headlamp Noise TSB
Hi,
I'm new to the Forum. I own a 2023 Mazda CX5 with almost 70,000 miles on it. The passenger side headlamp is making a strange and loud noise when turned on. I tried searching the site but was surprised to find nothing on it. Maybe my search was poor. There is a TSB 09-15/23 that addresses the issue. On some vehicles, the internal motor bearing in the headlamp was subjected to contamination, becoming noisier over time. Cost for new assembly is ~$1200 from dealer and $1800 installed. I was hoping there would be a recall but don't see one. Anyone have the same issue outside of warranty? Any suggestions on getting Mazda to help pay a portion or if an OEM replacement is reliable? I've attached the TSB notice. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

That TSB is very specific for effected units and if your Mazda goes out of the warranty coverage it is not likely Mazda will cover any portion of replacing it. The exception would be had you experienced the issue prior the warranty lapsing and is is noted in your VIN service history.
If you purchased your Mazda from the dealer that has been doing the basic service during the normal warranty period they may do a courtesy service at a discount. But this would be directly from the dealer not Mazda .

i disabled the directional headlight function in settings.
I just didn’t see any real advantage of it.
i will reactivate once in a while to keep it “fresh.”
If mine developed an issue, I would just not use the option.
No way I’m spending that kind of money for THEIR defect (and no guarantee the issue won’t repeat).

Like everything mass produced there is no perfect quality control. Occasionally a line of the same manufactured item can have issues not caught by quality control. But when they do it is generally corrected.
The TSB if you read it words it in a fashion that does not indicate a large issue only isolated otherwise the ASE that reviews them prior to release would have corrected or re-worded the information.
Perhaps that's also why on every page of that TSB they warn that they are intended for a Mazda and or "skilled" automotive technician or mechanic. You think?

Lets look up the word "MAY".
expressing possibility:
- "that may be true"
- Some customers may notice an abnormal noise
- The fan motor bearing may become worn out during use.

That is from the bearing supplier. Mazda didn't make the part. Assumedly the issue was a very small number just like the valve stem seal issue. They figured out what was going on and rectified it. Shouldn't be an ongoing issue (unlike the power folding mirror mechanism which is unchanged and still wears out).
There is that word "MAY" again in yet another posted and not fully understood the TSB and who they are meant for and written for which is a Mazda service mechanics and Technicians not the general public. that often get t misinterpret them and don't read and know all the information on them. How they there are codes and procedures that you would need to be at least working for Mazda in the service department to understand them..
