Default 2022 CX-5 Front radar and SBS malfunction

Hi all
I have a 2022 Mazda CX-5 with 39,000 miles. While returning from a long trip a few weeks ago, I started getting a front radar system malfunction error with smart brake system malfunction. The car runs fine otherwise but cruise control is not functional.

Following some of the recommendations here, I cleaned the front emblem area and the top of windshield. I also had the car washed but none of that helped.

Is there an option to reset these sensors?

I called the dealer and they said it may take 3 days to diagnose. Also since I am at 39000 miles, I assume this will not be covered by warranty.

Thank you for your guidance.

Welcome to the forum.

I would first talk with your dealership and confirm if or if not, those concerns are covered.
It does not take more than about an hour to diagnose all those problems. Maybe you misunderstood and it was 3up to 3 days before they could look at your Mazda?

You have something going on that is not as simple as a "reset" of any system.

Yeah that makes more sense. I will make an appointment to get it looked at.

Thanks

Welcome:
The normal issues with radar are listed below.
You covered the first one and it is difficult to access the wiring, your best course of action is to get it checked by a certified technician.
As for the mileage warranty you are correct, but it can also depend on how your particular dealer operates.
Some are by the book on warranties and others more aligned with the customer when the mileage is close.
  • Dirty radar area
  • Disconnected radar sensor
  • Broken radar sensor
  • Software issue

Hmm well sorta ... Dealership get a credit every year for out of warranty and judgement warranty calls. However yes they use those on their own customers that patronized them and then others that they would like to see for future customers. I happen to know that most dealership will still try to get reimbursed, but it goes without say that is what the "dealership credit" is for. It is also why many customers get confused or flat out angry when they ":think" other parts during a warranty service to should be replaced as well as the actual warranty part. Another thought by consumers that it doesn't work that way.
And then there is the "attitude" the more negative the customer the less chance anyone is going to bend the rules or go out of their way to help them.

As I often post most every dealership in the world is independently owned business and as such can refuse to offer their services and the only exception is a manufactures recall warranty service or a SAFTY recall.
I know that a few of a member on various forums (this one included) some have tried to do an end around a dealership and go directly to the auto manufacture with their issues for resolve only to be told they must work with the dealership.

All of this is why owners need to adhere to the service scheduling of the vehicle to the letter during the Warranty period. And any concern should be noted long before the Warranty expires so that is something does happen out of Warranty you may still be able to get it taken care of for free or at least at a acceptable discount with the dealership and Auto manufacture.

Good to read. Please let us know how that works out for you and good luck getting a fast and inexpensive resolve.

The dealer completed their diagnostic. They are saying that the Forward Looking Sensor Camera needs replacing. They provided a quote for $2855. I don’t think I can move forward with it at this point. I am not sure if there are any other options.

I would at this point look into getting an estimate from an independent service shop. Do not show them your dealership quote. Let them tell you their estimate.

Yup considering the warranty is more than likely out of the picture, I'd go to a private mechanic who's trustworthy and get their opinion like Callisto said. Hopefully they have better news!
