Why don't people let their vehicles warm up?
Even with high pressure pumps and computer-controlled fluids when it's cold out those fluids' viscosity is thicker.
Simple physics and thermodynamics folks.
That's why you don't store maple syrup or molasses in the refrigerator.
OMG.... what part of your MAZDA Skyactiv transmission is not like the power glide in your old Chevy that some of you seem not to understand?
Below are only 3 pictures of parts (solenoids and valves that are directly affected and influence the shifting of the transmission in your MAZDA. When the transmission fluid is not warmed up these do not operate smoothly and as they should. Thus causing the occasional feelings some of you are experiencing because you are in to much of a hurry .
I will also add that this valve body and a few others when taken apart and inspected for failure the findings were all because customers did not service their transmission because MAZDA claimed lifetime no service.
When you are out of warranty you are out of luck to get MAZDA to take care of your transmission issues and failures!
It might be normal for this car, but it doesn't make is acceptable.
I find interesting that you assume in the first place that something that others may not even hear or notice is not normal to the same model MAZDA? Based on what? Please explain the technical reason that your specific Mazda may be making what you think is not a normal sound?
Nobody said anything about a sound. The transmission slips/jerks when shifting from 2nd to 3rd when cold. How the hell is that normal or acceptable. Are you always a douchebag or has this somehow triggered you?
Not I sound. I understand exactly what you are saying. The question is, does your "issue" occur in cooler weather at startup, and goes away as you drive? If so, as has been explained ad ad naseum, It is NORMAL for many (including the CX-5) transmissions. If you think it's an issue, drive another one to compare, or have a tech take a test drive with you to see if yours is having issues.
I wrote a few posts up about my efforts to figure the behavior out. I found a few other cx-5s of various years that did the same thing. I am in the normal camp and I do agree with warming up before driving if you do not appreciate the flare or don't want to accelerate gently until it warms up.
As a side note, I drive rentals a lot for work as a travel a few times a month. Many other manufacturers also have these flares when cold. Few great examples are the 10 speed F150, RAV4 8, and GM 6-speed.
It's a car; there are adjustments owners need to make. I hadn't experienced this in a car I've owned over the last 25 years. I looked into it, made some comparisons, and will adjust. I'm sure no auto engineer and won't pretend I know better than the engineers regarding decisions and compromises.

Dude it nice to see your true colors after 3 posts as a new member ROLMAO and what you don't know! The word sound should have been shifting. Anyone with 1/2 a brain could have figured that out by all the responses and PICTICES I posted on this thread.

the tech did say that its not right, it hasn't thrown a code yet, that's the issue of the diagnosis . I have driven every cx-5 model year since 2013 this is the first time with this issue. I have driven the 2023-2024 models and the ones I've driven don't do it, I have video of the tachometer jumping up in the rpms as it shifts. They have a ticket into Mazda Canada, but no response yet. Not sure where you read on my reply that I said it was transmission, I didn't mention what component. You may have some of your response confused with the original poster.
