Default 2021 CX-5 GTR Infotainment black screen

Hi,

I just purchased a new 2021 GTR version of CX-5. On random occurrences, the infotainment screen does not start on ignition. However, the back camera works fine when switched to back gear, and the screen on dash board also works fine.

When switch to D from R, the screen would turn black again. No speaker, no radio, no apple car play.

Since it happened on day 2, I switched to another new one at the dealer. But the second vehicle got the SAME problem. I wonder if it's a systematic issue. Dealer can't figure out, and have contacted Mazda and are waiting for their solution.

Quite like the car and don't want to be a b**ch and switch again. I'm quite computer-savvy but couldn't figure out any pattern when it happened. It happens quite randomly. Some day it would be running well, but I could park at a store and came back into the car in 5 minutes and the screen would be black. If the screen did start, it would remain good for the entire drive until next engine start.

Also, on YouTube I found a hard restart on the older system. It doesn't seem to work on the new 10.25 inch system. Please help!

Thanks!
Phil

Quick update just now --

got dealer's message. They say both vehicles have "computer made by Panasonic" and have such an issue. Will have them replaced in a couple of weeks. Waiting for the final process to be made.

So hope everyone here be aware of this issue. May be just one pack of vehicles.

We have two variations on the theme.
1. The screen goes black, but radio and Carplay still appear to work through Siri commands. The screen comes back up on shut off and restart of the car.
2. The system appears to reboot, the screen going black, then the Mazda logo comes up and the screen goes back to where it was. Radio still seems to work, Carplay not tested. The screen goes black and seems to immediately restart.

Mine has had no such issues in the 5mths and 3500 miles I have driven. I would assume both cars you have tried had similar build dates? Likely just a short run of defective equipment.

I encountered this issue as well, but then I realized that you can turn OFF the screen by holding down the volume **** like a button for a few seconds! Could something be leaning on the button and pushing it down?

try pushing down the **** and holding it down for a few seconds and see if it fixes your issue. If i recall correctly, it's the volume ****. Otherwise, it's the big central dial.

If only it were that easy. The volume button is the on/off. We will see next week when the dealer gets though with it.

I purchased a 2021 CX-5 GTR, with 4 miles on it prior to the test drive, on October 7th. I also had the now optional SD nav card installed. Starting the first week, and continuing until now, there have been multiple reboots of the system, usually on startup. I was told by the dealer, that they have seen this problem on older cars, but never before on such a new vehicle. I took it to the dealer, they ran all the usual diagnostics and saw no codes, updated the firmware, let it run for an hour, without seeing a single glitch. Next morning, it happened again. Upon advice of the service manager, I removed the card and ran without it for almost a week, using Apple Car play instead; not a single reboot. I put it back in this week, and have seen the reboot / display failure three days, the latest this morning. I got a photo of the issue this morning and will update the service manager this evening. I am also going to try the pencil eraser technique described on another posting and see if that fixes the issue. In this brand new vehicle, the problem should not be corrosion in the vehicle contacts.

Thanks. We did know and try this. What you described is the normal turning on/off of the system. It's not the problem

Update; took the card out for almost a week, and used Apple Carplay; no reboots. Put it back in after that and had 3 restarts / black screens on startup in one week. Found a post here about cleaning the contacts on the card with a pencil eraser. I cleaned the card, re-inserted it last Saturday; the car had an error at startup and reloaded the nav data. I've driven it Sunday and today, and had no reboots, and the startup is quicker. The issued seems to be bad connectivity at the contacts.

This should be a sticky here on this forum but the moderator doesn't think that it should be.
