I'm still trying to decide on getting the Weathertech floor mats. I was really happy with them in my Mazda3 and both my Sonatas. The dealer threw in a set of the factory rubber mats for the CX5 and they're pretty good but not quite up to that Weathertech level. It's really a matter of deciding if I want to spend that much on them. They do cover more and it's nice having them reach up higher around the edges, but they're not cheap.
BTW here is the Mazda floormat in the 2021. It's nice and thick. The sides don't go up as far as the Weathertech one does. Also does have cutouts for the tie down things on the sides.

My experience with WeatherTech 2021 CX5 floor mats is that I am not as happy with them as I have been with Husky mats I purchased for my dearly departed 2016 Mazda6.
And of course, the Canadian OEM mats seem to be a favorite of many...they seem to be very Maxpider3D-ish See the Kagu mats. But they are expensive.
I have found that the Husky mats have more dead pedal coverage than the WeatherTech. Two photos below are of WeatherTech in our 21 CX5. The second with the alloy dead pedal shows the lack of coverage more clearly.

I have the WT All Weather mats front and rear and they fit the bill in the snowy season - much better than OEM - but you are correct about being pricey, but over the ownership of the car it's small change and worth it to get the better protection over the OEM's. I also have the WT Cargo Liner - bought because the OEM was on a long back order - but from the pics, I do like the OEM's better.
On another note, I have a set of USA Made Cocoa Mats on order.

Yeah I'm sure the weathertechs would be good I've tried them in all the others and never been disappointed. I haven't seen the Cocoa ones.
