2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD thread - xAgyex
I purchased this 2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD for my wife. She had been driving a Subaru for a while and just wanted something that looked nicer. She used to have an 06 Rx8 (Check Rx8 out here)
My wife wanted something red, and with header seats so we got the Touring AWD. Dealer added navigation as well for free. But not really the best deal. I just wanted my wife to have something she liked.

Ordered 2x - DDPai Mini2 Wi-Fi Dash Cam DDPai Mini2 Wi-Fi Dash Cam
from amazon and installed one facing forward and the other facing back.
Ordered MAZDA SKYACTIV 5-QT FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE KIT W/ DRAIN PLUG GASKET MAZDA SKYACTIV 5-QT FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE KIT W/ DRAIN PLUG GASKET
from amazon to do first oil change on my own. I don't like anyone working on my vehicles unless I absolutely have to let them.
Changed the oil at just a little over 4,000 miles, after we got the car back from the shop...as it was rear ended. I will post shortly about that.

Been a while since I updated. CX-5 was repaired around 4,500 miles. We are now at over 35,000 miles, so needless to say still a great family hauler. Only thing I have been doing every 5,000 miles is change the oil, and rotate tires. I did change the tires at 25,000 miles to 225/65R-17 Sumitomo HTR A/S P03 SL. These tires are very loud but do great in all weather even deep snow.
For oil changes every 5,000 miles, I use "Mazda SKYACTIV 5-QT Full Synthetic Oil Change KIT W/Drain Plug Gasket" from Amazon Amazon
For engine filter changes every 30,000 miles, I use "ECOGARD XA6280 Premium Engine Air Filter Fits Mazda CX-5 2.5L 2014-2021" from Amazon Amazon
For cabin filter changes every 15,000 miles, I use "Puroma Cabin Air Filter with Activated Charcoal Layer Replacement for CPJ6X" from Amazon Amazon
If you want to follow exactly Mazdas recommendations check this out: ...aintenance.pdf

At 40,000
Changed the rotors and break pads. Probably should have replaced them back at 30,000 miles.
Used these from Amazon -

At 40,880 miles

Decided to replace spark plugs because I am dealing with some strange shaking at high speed. I don't really think the spark plugs are bad, but trying all the change fixes before I start on the more expensive possibility.
Need:
Plus
Flat head to remove coil pack clips
8 mm socket to remove coil packs
9/16 mm socket to remove spark plug
Purchased from Amazon these basically OEM replacements for this 2.5 NA CX-5.

Looks like cylinder 4 is the only plug that shows some weird possible signs of oil. Hopefully I am wrong. New plugs were all at 0.045 mm, but the old plugs were all at 0.050+ mm gap. Also torqued down plugs to 14 ft-lbf.

Well it has been along time since I posted here. The car is still going strong. Recently had to change the battery. That is the only thing I have had to do to maintain her besides oil changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

Got a replacement battery from BJs Wholesale Interstate IBX Silver for $134.47.

When the battery failed (at 12.1 volts), it also threw a P2610 CEL. Simply replaced the battery and reset the code and it has never returned. Noticed rough idle when I first installed the new battery.
Tip #1: At minimum 12.8 volts is required to get the car started correctly, and while driving if the alternator is working correctly you should be able to read 14.4 volts.

Tip #2: Recommend you get one of these cigarette lighter USB devices and just leave it plugged in. And simply glance at it every now and then. So you don't have to open the hood and use a multi-meter every time to check if the battery is well.

Decided to check out the old battery and see if I can fix it. Actually it wasn't that bad, as I was able to fix it by adding some distilled water. Then trickle charged it back up using my battery tender jr. Probably should have done this instead of spending $134. Highly recommend everyone just do this. You can refill the battery while it is in the car, just be extremely careful.

As you can see the level of the liquid inside was low, especially in the first and last chambers. I just used a little droplet tube and slowly filled them all back up to the middle. I was able to charge it back up to 13.2 volts.

So after nearly 40,000 miles...and the worse warped and rumbling rotors, I decided to change to a different set of front rotors, and wow what a differences. Those cheapo OE rotors were so bad out the gate. I really should have just returned them to that Amazon seller. Below is what I purchased from Amazon this time around, and they are soooooooooo much better. Will replace the rears later.

After experiencing issue where the radio would randomly go to full max volume and change channel and more...I was able to resolve this issue by DISABLING the touch screen. I first tired to clean the center console big round button, but that was not the fix. Disabling the touch function on the touch screen is what solved the issue. But here is a video on how to clean the buttons and sadly I didn't make a video for disabling the touch screen but I will attached the video I found that walked me thru it.
