FYI everyone - I just got my 2019 CX5 Signature entertainment system's firmware updated. It used to take forever to boot up, but now it seems a lot faster. No adverse effects noticed yet.

UPDATED OS AND FAIL SAFE 70.00.100 TO 73.00.230

 

How did you updated it? Through dealer?

 

Yes. I had to ask about it.
I was in for an oil change and when they were almost finished, I asked if there was any firmware update. He said there was and would take 45 minutes to update.
If I didn't ask for it, I wouldn't have gotten it. And it's only free during my warranty period which runs out early next year.

Later, I wondered if there was any ECU updates but forgot to ask. Anybody ever get their ECU updated on their 2018+ CX5??

 

ECU updates are part of the standard service.

 

It was my understanding that ECU updates are only free during the warranty period?

 

If you read the service schedule in your owners manual it should list PCM updates & fault code checks every service or every 2nd service. This is based on servicing, not the age of the vehicle or warranty status.

 

did the Mazda dealer do the firmware upgrade??? and if so, how much did they charge???

 

when I get my 2019 CX-5 next service (20k miles), the service department is supposed to check and serviced the firmware for updates??? are they going to charge for the firmware update??? and if so, how much???

 

I had my 2019 CX-5 (currently with less than 18k miles) serviced 3 times at the Mazda dealer ...... and I don't think they ever mentioned anything about it (no firmware updates)
