My wife’s 2019 CX 5 Grand Touring (with 17k miles) lease ends this Oct and she may consider a new one but I was looking at the numbers and there’s equity remaining. The buyout is $19K. I see used for $30k. Are the 2019’s reliable after 3yrs? What exactly is covered under the New-Vehicle Limited Warranty, 36 months or 36,000 miles? Should we be concerned about reliability?

Overall they are quite reliable. There are some cars with cylinder head crack issues which could involve your year, but this is not a known for sure. Kind of case by case. I would say if yours has been reliable so far there is no reason to expect it to go south. The power train is under warranty for 5yrs/60k so you have a while there. 19k is a good figure and I would expect you could get more than that from a dealer if you wanted to trade for a newer model.

Sorry for bringing the thread up but I'd appreciate If more people could confirm this. I'm shopping for cars and my first pick would be the 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve. I've googled 2019 CX-5 reliability and got 2.5 out of 5 "predicted reliability" which is bad, and I'm not sure how they got that number (J.D. Power). Then I've asked my independent mechanic which car should I buy and listed CX5 among several other cars, he immediatelly told me "don't go with the CX5", but he didn't say why.

Any thoughts or info appreciated.

 

Don't know where, or what your mechanic is basing his advice on. They are virtually bullet proof. No make or model is perfect, but CX-5 is right up there. Bang for buck they are great, maybe there are alot of picky owners that expect them to be at a $60,000 level of luxury and perfection.

 

My opinion is JD Power is a" bit long in the tooth" as a review platform and often shows bias.
Virtually all other professional reviews rate the 2019 CX-5 the equivalent of a 4.7 to 5 out of 5.

 

I had a 2016.5 CX5 that was a very good car. It had 99,000 miles on it and traded it for a 2021 Signature. I mainly wanted the extra power of the turbocharged engine and some of the new features available, or I would have kept it longer. I have 20,000 miles on the Signature. I had no issues with either car. I've also owned a Mazda 6 and a 2006 Miata. No issues with them, either. Your mechanic may have a bias, many do, but I wouldn't be afraid of hanging on to your CX5 longer.

 

Thank you all, I thought that was the case. I have 2007 Mazda 3 right now with almost 200.000 miles on it and it's still going strong.
