2019 2.0 skyactiv-g 165ps sluggish?
Hello peeps, I have recently purchased a 2019 cx-5 2.0 petrol, when driving it feels so sluggish, has anyone else experience this and have you found a solution if any?
I have noticed the inlet pipe is blocked by the grill and plastics on the front end. Has anyone opened this up to increase airflow?

Check for DTCs at the diagnostic connector and also the monitors. Note any codes pending or in the case of the monitors not ready!
DO NOT ALTER THE AIR INTAKE. It is designed to work just fine! Increasing the air flow is NOT your problem if you in fact have a problem?
Why does the OP think that his CX-5 is sluggish? Has he driven other CX-5s which seemed faster? What is he used to driving? If indeed there is a problem the cause could range from fouled plugs to a clogged air filter to a bad ECU to a faulty transmission to dragging brakes and on and on. If there is nothing wrong with the vehicle then there is a limited aftermarket for performance parts, just don’t expect a huge improvement.

This way it takes the human factor out of comparing power levels to other vehicle's?
As for brakes well again in most cases you would get a ABS , BRAKE light or strange sounds and even a strange smells if the brakes were a problem?
As for you thought on what is available for increasing power output and the results of anything, I guess staying with the interest of this thread , have you personally done it for a Mazda Skyactiv engine of any size normally aspirated ? I can tell you right now I could roll up some cams that would give it about 5-7 hp increase, improve the exhaust and intake systems, slightly larger Throttle body, wrap the complete exhaust system maybe 3-6hp then a fully ported head addition 15-25hp increase and then a ECU calibrations to tie the head and cams together , maybe 35+hp increase from whatever the stock was? How about water/meth injection , well that about 7-10% increase, and LPG augmentation that a solid 10% from what ever your starting output is...then nitrous on a stock engine easy 50 safe Horse Power(75 pushes it a bit) with a push of a button.
It may seem that most often my responses on this forum to only be from the fact I am a Master Automotive Technician but reality is..............Engineering and manufacturing Power parts is what I do best !

JUST TO BE CLEAR I HAVE ALREADY STATED A FEW TIMES ON THIS FORUM THAT I WILL NOT BE OFFERING ANY PERFROMANCE PARTS FOR ANY MAZDA. MY MARKETOR HAS ALREADY DONE THE RESEARCH AND HAS INDICATED TO ME THE MARKET IS ALREADY SATURATED AND ANY NEW PRODUCTS WOULD NOT BE A WISE INVESTMENT OF TIME OR MONEY TO DEVELOPE.

Hi thanks for your responses, I have a golf 1.6fsi which is naturally aspirated obviously less power, the mazda I have drove another and it felt more responsive, there's no codes in the system (had it checked at dealers), it just feels like (metaphore) it's strangled as if there's something holding it back, I will check the air filter tonight if I get chance. Put foot down on a slight incline in gear 3 already at 20mph and it struggles to get up to 30.
The way you check for engine health:
1) Do a proper cylinder compression test DO NOT LET engine rotate more then 5 revolutions' and repeat exactly on all 4 cylinders.
*if any are low or any lower by more then 15lbs of the highest perform a wet test followed by scoping each cylinder to see if you have excessive carbon deposit's
2) if compression is low or just want to see the % perform a cylinder leak down test.
3) Examine the spark plug carefully and use a flashlight that you can see down inside the the center.
4) Perform a cooling system pressure test.
5) Sample the emission output from the tail pipe after engine is completely warmed up and cycled. Or find a smog station with a certified testing equipment that can do a emission -pretest.
If all these are correct then you need to look at Diagnostic via OBDII to see the timing, and other operation aspects.
In the end it could simply mean that your engine after it was broken in from new is generating its power level.
Not all engines will generate the claimed power out puts and the new break in period has a lot effects on the engines potential.

When my get "sluggish" then i know its time for "Italian tuneup" its performed by drive i manual gear with no less than 3500 rpm for about 3 km, i makes the engine comes back to life, and have worked for me on serveral cars.
That may only be cleaning up the spark plugs that are long due for changing. But it does sorta work in the short term. Never herd it called Italian tuneup before, lot nicer then what we call it but I can't post. hahaha!

My personal plate on one of my Mini Cooper's is BLOWNMC yet I seldom had anyone even at MINI car events know what it meant?
I also worked at a shop that some of the engines were called "tit" motors and others "porcupine" engines. hahahah! Not me but I did learn fast who was the engine guru's for each catagory at the time and it wasn't me!
I long since stopped using wiki as a empirical source for information. Casually look up the history of wiki and the inaccurate and sometime outright wrong information that can be found their. Even Wiki itself reports that the information is only as good as those that contribute it and that it is up to the individual to do a complete research on any subject and the origin of the answer to self determine the validity or accuracy of anything wiki has. A class I was attending college we were not allowed to show any paper written that contained information gathered from wiki because of how badly the information inaccuracies were. My professor in Archology often said "wiki user's are academically lazy". Just so you or many other take offence I still will use it but mostly for a starting point to find Empirical Data or information but not to use it as a definitive information portal.
You know I am going to be using the term "Italian Tune Up" now on some threads (maybe not necessarily this forum) because you called me on it, and I rather like the term!
