Default 2018 CX-5 Center Console Arm Rest

Searched and didn't find any info on this subject.

I have relatively short legs for a male so my driver's seat is set closer to the steering wheel than most.

As a result, I find the arm rest on the center console almost useless, especially when cups are in their holders.

Has anyone else found this to be true also and if so, are there any commercially made products to solve this? If not, I may try to design something to add comfort to my right arm.

This is not much of a problem for me with the exception of when on long trips.

This has been a problem with the CX-5 since day #1 and Mazda refuses to correct it with a simple sliding armrest such as Subaru has used on certain models. There are aftermarket height boosters (I have one on my 2013) which help, but do nothing to make the armrest longer in front.

That's very interesting. I have a 2016 Miata MX-5 that had a similar problem with the arm rest. However, due to where the cup holders are located, I was able to modify it fairly easy.

I actually widened it quite a bit, moved it forward, and made it much thicker due to it being too low. Also, the original top felt rock hard.

Now I have a suitable center console arm rest in my MX-5.

I wonder what Mazda has against comfortable arm rests? Maybe it's a conspiracy.

Seriously, this would have been a deal breaker for me had I noticed it during my very short test drive. I will attempt to do something about this with some sort of design that will move the arm rest forward and upward so as to allow the use of the cup holders underneath. No doubt it will have to be a permanent fixture mounted on top of the original lid. The whole piece will pivot with the original lid.

Now I must put this old brain to use. Thanks for getting back to me.

I have one of these on my gen 1 CX-5. Wouldn't this have been a lot easier, to say nothing of being a better match for your Miata's interior?

The black one with red stitching definitely would go with my interior better than the one I made.

However, it is vinyl as opposed to my leather. Never the less, I may order one anyway.

I will use it for a while and if it works out, I can take it apart, make leather patterns and build one out of genuine leather.

Thanks for the heads up.
