Unhappy 12 Volt Outlet in Arm Rest

So I use the 12 volt plug in the arm rest for my GPS charger and find it quite annoying that power continues to run through only this plug after the car is off. This results in me having to unplug/replug it every time I get in/out of the car so that my GPS does not continue to stay on. Sounds petty I know but it's just a nuisance since I never had to do this with my previous vehicle.

Does anyone know how to change this is in some way? Any help would be much appreciated!

You can't run the charger off the front console plug?

I,m sensing some Zoom Zoom here!

Splice the wires from one in to the other, there is enough juice for both.

Buy one of those twin outlets! Available in auto parts stores, Sears, Walmart, Target. etc.

I have a 1 into 2 adaptor. The problem is the alleged power take off in the dash area is not the "cigarette lighter" type and is just like a little slot.

I think the best fix is to tap switched 12 volts from the fuse block near the drivers foot.
More details here
Buy Navigation card or Garmin (other brand) dash navigation?

See post 3 and the link.

It looks good and works good.

Hi there, new member and owner here. I wondered about the always-on outlet in the arm rest...I leave my phone charger in there all the time and it has a tiny LED light on it. I don't have to worry about it draining the battery, do I?

One would think that a LED indicator light would have almost no draw on the battery.....however.....I charge my cell phone every night by plugging it into a charger I leave permanently plugged into kitchen outlet. People who know more about electronics than I tell me even when my phone is not plugged into the charger it still draws power. No problem in my kitchen but, if true, could be a problem in vehicle. I just wonder who was the A-Hole at Mazda that decided a switched power outlet was not necessary on the dash somewhere.

P.S. Good luck with your new Mazda....I love mine.
