Glad to be part of the group! We own a 2017 CX-5 GT 2.2 Diesel AWD (KF) and had a Mazda towbar fitted earlier this year. We want to have an electric brake controller fitted but before we do that, I wanted to know if someone could help clarify the towing capacity.

The car's manual states a braked towing capacity of 1800kg. However, the 2019 model update states a capacity of 2000kg.

Now, we want to know what was changed in the model update which now allows an extra 200kg of towing capacity? Does anyone know?

If in doubt read the towing sticker on the drivers side B Pillar.

 

I asked my Mazda man about that and he says there were some minor suspension modifications to the 2019 and so enabled the 2000kg.
He's usually pretty good so tend to think he may be right........no guarantee but!
FYI I had a 2019 CX8 with the diesel and towed a caravan, (trailer for our US mates) which weighed around 1600kg all up. Pulled like a dream, lot's of torque, economy around the 9lt to 100km when towing and down as low as 6 when not towing and mixing up driving around town and some bush work. Hope that helps some M8
