Default 2016 CX5 won’t start

Hi,

today morning my 2016 cx5 refused to crank. The battery light is on but what I find weird is that the brake pedal won’t push all the way down. I have checked that the car is in Park position and I have managed to bring it to Park multiple times just to make sure. I am also unable to take of the parking brake and therefore cannot take the car out of garage. Someone please help!

@Gurpreet Randhawa,

1.- Do your brake lights come on when you step on the Brake pedal?
2.- Are your headlights nice and bright when you turn them on?
----No brake pedal action for these two tests---
3- Does your "Start" button turn on the dash instruments (fuel gauge etc) when depressed once?
4- Does your dash light all idiot lights and info icons when you press the the "Start" button twice?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5- Does the car crank and start when you hold the fob directly to the face of the "Start" button and press "Start"?

I also noticed that the info panel says " Keyless system malfunction" and "SmartCity Brake malfunction"

From a search on this topic:
"For some reason after the car sits for an extended period of time the brake pedal becomes very difficult to push thus activating the switch. If one pushes on the pedal very hard it will activate the switch. When this happens it is like pushing on the brake pedal to stop when the car engine quits and the vacuum assist is off.We owned a 2014 CX 5 and this never happened. Dealer says it is normal."

Does the key fob allow for locking and unlocking the doors? Could the battery be an issue?

Not related to "No start".

Why is the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)/Smart Brake Support (SBS) warning light illuminated when raining?

The SCBS/SBS* warning light may illuminate if the windshield is fogged on the inner and/or outer sides or if there is rain on the windshield outer side. If there is rain/fogging on the windshield’s outer side, operate the wipers. Keep the windshield clean.
If there is fogging on the windshield’s inner side, turn on defrost.
If the warning light remains on after wiping/defrosting the windshield, have the vehicle inspected at an authorized Mazda dealer. For more information, you may also refer to Section 4 of your Owner's Manual.
There is an infrared laser sensor in the windshield that provides input to this system. Is it blocked?

I would have the car towed to a dealership if it were me.

In my case the battery had died due to age and the fact that I don’t drive the car that much. Just get a new battery and replace it and make sure that you drive your car at least 25-30km each week

Talking

That worked for me too! Just had to jump start the battery.
I just wish instead of showing all kinds of malfunction warnings, it would just show the battery needs to be charged.

Would there be some suggested minimum frequency? Like would it be fine if that 25-30km were only once a week?
