Default 2016 CX-5 CMU question

Hello all, newbie here. I bought a used 2016 CX-5 a while back and found that I could not get it to connect to my Sirius XM account. With the car into the dealer for service the other day I asked them to look into that and they came back saying that my CMU was operating under an old OS and they wanted to reprogram it for another $220. I declined because it occurred to me that I could run Sirius XM through bluetooth (which works fine) and my phone. My quesion though, is there something else down the line that will give me problems if I don't reprogram the CMU now?

Thanks,
Jim

Sounds like you need to find another dealer.

In my country, Mazda offers free software updates for the MZD system (CMU).

Regardless of your firmware version it still should connect to your Sirius account, I'm sure that when new this worked, why would it not work now with the same firmware? I have the original firmware version in my 2016.5 CX (and 2016 MX) and everything works just as it did when brand new.

The Sirius won't go past the promo screen. I communicated with them quite a bit, they did everything they could (reresh signals, etc) and finally said the problem is with the car.

So is there a downside to using an old OS version, anyone know?

No downside for me in the use of the original firmware. I'm happy with the operation of the infotainment systems in both of my Mazdas
