2016 212k miles grinding sound
Hi All,
I have 2016 Touring model with 212k miles, I've started to hear a grinding whistle like noise intermittently when the car is in park or idled with my foot on the brake.
I took it to my mechanic but they didnt hear the sound when the car was with them.
No dash indicators and the car drives fine.
Just had spark plugs changed and serpentine belt.
She is getting up there with mileage but I haven't had really any major issues. I am the only owner.

So if the service department or shop you went to it did not make the noise then it will be a "guessing" game on any forum. I hate to say it but next time try a video. Just don't move the cell phone around video in on location you hear it the loudest noise area.
New belts dot really place more stress on an idler pulley new or old? (manufactured engine from about 2002 to present) But nice thought.

bearings to act up - no codes is good - keep driving , listening and observing - possibly get a friend to replicate - foot on brake - while you
do a visual -hood open - for the source - - It dosent sound catastrophic yet irritating - follow up and let us know what the shakeout is -
Welcome to the forum

It would make noise generally all the time.

I took it to my local mechanic shop.
I'm not sure if it was making the sound before because the fraying belt was making it's own sound which was much louder.
I'm going to try and capture it and post it.
Awesome testamonial of the supreme design and build quality of this particular vehicle - Foot on the brake at idle ..in gear ( D ) or ( P ) ? - regardless - I agree with the green guy - hard to diag online - but ....my experience working in repairs - when a new issue arises after a specific service - thats the first place you look -serpentine belt - not a stretch fit from memory - likely is the culprit - did the idler pulley get replaced ? did they offer ? At that mileage I definitly would have replaced it as well - im guessing - but....the new tension ( which may be correct ) after a long period of getting all you could get out of an old slacked belt likely is causing alternator , pulley or other related guide

Yes! I'll definitely try to get it recorded. My mechanic is pretty good, I'm going to take it back to him to check the belts like you guys recommended. 🙂
