Default 2015 cx-5 injector leaking

I was looking into replacing the seals on a leaking injector. The information I've seen says I need to get a special kit/tool to put the seals on. Any help would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance

Yep, SSTs are required, and lots of time as well. How did you diagnose a leaking injector?

There was a really strong gas smell from the engine bay, and it took longer to start. When I had it running i looked and saw a stream of gas coming from the injector on the driver's side. It's a messed up o ring is what I have found

Unless the intake manifold was removed, no part of the injectors can be seen, so I suspect the gas is coming from somewhere else. And one likely candidate would be some part of the HPFP assembly, or the pipe that connects the pump to the fuel distributor, all of which are located on the drivers side. Was any work done recently on your vehicle which included removal and reinstallation of the pump?

Right, you can't just plainly see them. But when I smelled the gas and was looking around I could see the fuel rail, the ends of it anyway. And on the side mentioned I could see the leak. I removed the fuel rail today and found a trashed o ring for said injector.

I've seen pristine looking (and feeling) injector O rings on a 15-year-old vehicle with 200K+ miles, so it's very surprising to read a report of this issue on a much newer vehicle. But I guess it's the same old $hit happens, and we'll just have to hope it's not the first evidence of some ugly systemic, early O ring failure on these engines.

Hats off to you for getting the problem identified and taken care of DIY!

Don’t panic just yet. The OP’s CX is over seven years old with unspecified mileage, I wouldn’t exactly call it early. I suspect that if it was a systemic problem we’d have heard multiple reports already. It could be nothing more than a bad lot of rings or a poorly installed or damaged ring. I’ve known people who lived to be over 95 years old, that doesn’t mean everyone will live that long.
