I have a cx-5 that for the last few months has been acting weird. When I fill up my gas tank the fuel gauge says it's empty (no bars) and fuel light goes on. After 20 or 30 miles and engine on and off fuel light goes off and slowly bars start showing a fuller tank. Engine light goes on at some point.After 60 miles and engine on and off eventually engine light is off and everything is as it should be. Also, the "range" on the info says zero until after the engine light is off and everything is normal. This doesn't seem to happen when I add a few gallons instead of filling it up. Does anyone know if this can be remedied with a new gas cap? Fuel cleaner additive? I'd rather not go to the dealership. Thanks.

 

Sounds like a sticky sending unit for the fuel gauge.
