Default 2014 sometimes get's stuck in 1st gear

My 2014 CX5 sometimes (intermittent) from park to drive it gets stuck in 1st gear (automatic mode) and will not shifting up to second gear in Automatic mode.
So I have to do 1 of 2 things -
1 - Stop and put in park and then in drive and then it shifts perfectly in automatic mode.
2 - Put it in Manual mode and shift like that and it works great in manual shift mode.
Has anyone had this intermittent problem and how did they fix it.

Have you checked the gearbox oil? is it at the right level or contaminated?
I'm no expert on auto gearboxes but from what I have read the Mazda unit can take on some additional fluid (oil/diesel) following a DPF purge? (please correct me if I am wrong) and from experience of overfilling the auto gearbox on my volvo (similar torque converter type) it made gear changes very sluggish.

i have never checked the transmission oil.
I thought it was a not serviceable fill for life system but now on further research I see I can drain and fill the Transmission with new ATF.
I am going to do that check and fill in a few days after the heat in my area passes by.
The weird thing is my problem is that it will not disengage from 1st gear to second gear - sometimes.
With a transmission oil change I would think if the oil was too low or not good it would be slipping. But it shifts great for like a week and then it does it again........

I have this exact same issue with my 2014 Mazda CX-5. May I ask what the problem and solution was? I suspected it might have been from a recent oil change and too much oil, but I'm having difficult determining the oil level on the dipstick.

The OP hasn’t been back to the forum in 18 months, he won’t see your question.

He may when he sees the email notifying him of the reply to his post, along with the actual question. He doesn’t need to login to see the question. Just like how I saw you replied to me.
