Guys, I recently bought a 2012 CX 5 2.2 diesel sport with 175hp engine. The car from the first days had a problem with the radiator water. If it was driven aggressively, the engine was covered with radiator water. I returned the car to the dealer as it was bought second hand with 72000 miles and the engine was opened. It seemed that pressure from the pistons was passing in the radiator. The cylinder head was taken for checking and a small hole was found and repaired. A new gasket was ordered but we saw as well that the exhaust camshaft was almost flat. A new camshaft was order and the car now is still under repairs. Do you experience a similar problem with these engines? What maybe caused the problem and how can I avoid the same case in future? Any engine oil recommendation?

I can't speak to these issues first hand (we don't get Mazda diesels in the US; at least not YET), but I have seen these same issues on forums before. So you're not alone. Mazda has had its share of problems with this engine!

 

It is very strange for a Japanese car but Im wondering if I should keep the car or sale it avoiding similar problems in future.

 

Camshaft issue is very common on the diesels. Also turbo wear & failure goes hand in hand with the camshaft issue.

I know in my market there was a SSP, ( Special Service Programe) related to the oil filter & engine wear ( covering the Vacuum pump, camshafts & turbo)

I suggest you ring Mazda head office in your country & inquire about it.

 

I appear to have the same issue with my Mazda cx5 other issue when it overheats it goes into limp mode.
the thermostat light on dash does not flash prior to over heat and heater goes stone cold strange that as the cars hot. I read this is a common problem with the 2.2 diesel engine in Australia Mazda just change the engine free of charge.
