Default New CX-30 owner here..a few observations and questions

Hello all:
Just took delivery of our cx-30 today which is a premium model and I have to say my wife and I are very impressed with the car. Dark blue color with a lighter interior and it does everything to this point that we expected of it..
Tight handling and suspension, very comfortable seats, lots of options and technical gizmos to keep us occupied.
The non-turbo model has enough power
To get the job done, however the extra 50 odd horses in the turbo bottle would have been fun.
Build quality looks okay, a few scratches that are going to have to be straightened out in the next week or two that look to be done when the car was having its protective plastic being pulled off it. The gaps on the hood seem a little inconsistent and possibly the front of the hood is down a little more on the one side than it should be, hopefully that is something that can be adjusted by the dealer without too many issues. The interior is flawless and were getting used to using that BMW like dial controller which takes a little bit to get used to but is not to onerous.
Styling is really nice, we've already had a few compliments on it from The neighbors. I really think Mazda would have offered more than a couple of colors on these models since it has a nice shape to it especially in a lighter color but the dark blue really does sparkle in the Sun.
Wondered how these are in the snow with the standard all season tires? We usually run blizzaks on the car as we drive in the winter and they worked well on the RAV4 that we just got out of so we may add a separate set of rooms for blizzaks for the winter.
I'll post some additional comments as we get some miles on it.

I took delivery of a new 2024 CX-30 S Carbon Edition here; my first Mazda. And I live in Upstate New York and am wondering if (Waxoyl) rustproofing is a good idea.

Welcome to the forum!

Made our purchase in July and first snow here in Michigan this week. So far the traction and handling in snow is just fine with the stock tires.

Just remembered, in 1991, I bought a brand new 1991 Ford Probe, so this CX-30 is not my first Mazda. LOL.

The Ford Probe was pretty much a Mazda MX-6, if I recall correctly. Not unlike how the Mazda B-Series pickup truck was really just a Ford Ranger.

Welcome to the club! Next month will mark four years that we have owned our (then new) 2021 Mazda CX-30 Premium AWD. Overall, we are pleased with the CX-30, although the rear seat legroom isn't all that much to write home about. If you frequently carry four adults, I recommend the slightly bigger CX-5. Still, we love this car. If you take care of your Mazda, it ought to take good care of you for several years. Mazda has stepped up their game quite a bit in recent years.

We drove it through several states in the USA + took it to Germany with us for two years. It has seen several countries in Europe AND we even took it to England for a week - via the Channel Tunnel. It was fun, but challenging, to drive on the LEFT side of the road for a week! Going clockwise through a roundabout is truly an amazing - if scary - experience.

The Mazda was a great car in Germany and, while it is not as fast as the turbo model would have been, it held up fine on the Autobahn at sustained speeds of close to 100 mph (160 kph), although the fuel economy takes a big dip when you get above 81 mph (130 kph). The instrument panel enables display in standard OR metric units, which avoids having to constantly calculate speed or distance in your head. The electronic stuff in the car doesn't work very well in Europe, though.

The lane departure system reads the yellow center line in the USA, but in Europe they use white lines everywhere except construction zones. The SiriusXM won't pick up any signal over there because they don't have any satellites over Europe. The FM radio cannot pick up most stations - since their format is different and they broadcast on 89.2, 102.8, 93.0, 101.6, etc. Clear signals still sound like an old AM station. The car won't do a 'system update' because there apparently are not any Mazda satellites over Europe. This results in a "System Malfunction" message that goes away after a day or two. The navigation won't work in Germany, either - likely because of a satellite or format issue.

The car won't read German speed limit or other traffic signs - which are round and use a different font for the digits. Minor gripes, but you quickly realize that you're not at home. The heads-up display works fine, though. The car also does recognize stop signs and some 'Do Not Enter' signs because they're the same as in the USA.

It's interesting that the German CX-30 has a 2.0L engine mated to a six-speed manual. The US models have a 2.5L (turbo or non-turbo) with ONLY an automatic. The lights are slightly different too. EU-spec cars have white front parking lights next to the headlights, while US-spec ones have amber parking lights down close to the bottom of the bumper & operate in conjunction with the turn signals. The batteries are completely different too, as are the radio and other electroncis.in the car. Both the EU and US spec CX-30s are built in the same plant down in Mexico, despite the differences between them. Mazda also builds them with right-hand-drive for the United Kingdom and other markets where they drive on the left side of the road.

Now that we're back in the USA, our Mada is "home" once again. Twelve more payments and it's totally ours. Just under 37,000 miles and still running strong. I just changed the oil & filter again today, which is surprisingly easy to do.

P.S. The gasoline is better in Germany than it is here. The 'regular' there is called Super 95 and is the same as 90 octane in the USA. 'Premium' in Germany is called Super+98 and equates to 93 octane in the USA. Esso stations in Germany typically offer a choice of E10 or E5 gasoline in the Super 95 grade, while the Super+ 98 is almost always E5. Zoom Zoom!!
