I only knew that my CX-5 has CD is when I got a recall notice regarding software fix for the CD to function properly. My second issue was when I traded that non-turbo with a 2019 CX-5 GT (turbo) last year - I heard from a Mazda technician that the turbo engine does not have CD - the first time I took it to the highway at speeds over 55 mph, I felt a severe vibration. That turned out to be a extra rubber gum on one of the tires. The mechanic from another Mazda dealer found the culprit and shaved the extra rubber gum off. I emailed Mazda Customer Care about the issue and requested for a replacement tire but I got a response telling me to bring the issue with the tire manufacturer. Really? Why in the first place the vehicle left the assembly line with a tire that has extra gum on it? I was going to give Mazda another chance because I was planning on downsizing to a CX-30 when the turbo version will come out but with the issues it’s having, I’m done with Mazda. There are only a few choices for me because most of the car manufacturers are embracing CVT’s which I hate so much.
I totally understand your frustration also. The car industry is so competitive that I can't fathom why a dealer or a manufactured would play like that with a customer. It's a known fact how difficult it is to gain new customers, and even more to have them come back. When they play games, they're literally saying "we don't want you as a client anymore"... How that makes any business sense, I have no idea...

There's usually a big warning in the car industry when a new model is released: if you have the option to wait, don't buy the car on its first production year. There usually are early kinks (minor and major) the manufacturer simply couldn't catch on time to fix... Why I was wrongly over-confident this time is because we bought a Hyundai Tucson back when it got completely redesigned in 2015 (2016 model). I was lucky we didn't experience any issues, but online forums were littered with people having major problems with the new dual-clutch automatic transmission combined with the 1.6T. So much so that Hyundai eliminated that engine/transmission combo 2 years later... They still use it on other cars, but for some reason it wasn't the right option for that specific car...

Why I feel my problem is different is because the engine and transmission are supposed to be "tried, tested and true" by Mazda. It was on the Mazda 3 for a couple of years at least. And online forums document multiple cases of transmission issues dating back to 2012. So they knew something was wrong in their process and they never fixed it, unlike Hyundai. Add the uncertainties around the release of a new model, plus a relatively new production location in Mexico... From what I can gather, my case seems pretty unique for a CX-30... Again, not sure what exactly is the underlying issue, but no way do I deem this acceptable for a Japanese manufacturer. I know they're not Honda/Toyota, but they're supposed to be up there...

It seems that's the conclusion Mazda Canada and the chief mechanic at the dealer came to. It's much simpler and even less costly to straight-up replace it, rather than fix it.

Though I'm hoping Mazda Corporate reverse-engineers the faulty one to finally diagnose exactly why a brand new 2020 transmission can fail straight out of the manufacturing plant. This issue has been around since 2012, and I can't come to terms how they never managed to figure it out.

3. Definitely a problem coming from the tire manufacturer but I agree that your dealer handled this pretty badly
4. Sorry to hear that, but never say never. When I sold my 2005 Mazda 3, I also said I was done with Mazda. Then they brought out the CX-5 and here I am
As I have posted here (and in the CX-5 forum too), I did not see CD in the Mazda website when I was researching for the 2019 CX-5 and it was not shown on the vehicle sticker. I can post the sticker if you don’t believe me because have a scanned copy of it in my archives.

As for the tire problem, why in the hell did the assembly personnel installed the tire on the vehicle with the obvious lump of extra rubber on the tire? Are tires and wheels installed by robots with no eyes?

I’m done with Mazda after the CX30 issues.

Another issue in the thread with this title “

Brand New CX-30 died while backing up”

In fact, it was advertised as a clever technology to improve MPG of the vehicle, so Mazda did and does not have any incentive of hiding the cylinder deactivation technology.
It was obviously hidden by Mazda by NOT printing it on the sticker. I wouldn’t have bought that CX-5 if the CD was on the sticker. Well, I did not view the “Technical Specifications” when I did the “Build” of my 2019 CX-5 non-turbo GT February last year. I’m done with Mazda. Although after researching on the vehicle that I want to downsize to, may be made/assembled in Mexico!

January through February of last year, the Cylinder Deactivation (CD) of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 was not on the vehicle sticker and on their website as I didn’t come across it when I was researching and doing a “Build” of my Sonic Silver 2019 CX-5 GT (non-turbo). Later that year, maybe from the advice of their corporate lawyers, they had to disclose it and added it on the stickers and on the specs on their website. As I have mentioned, I don’t/didn’t like CD and if that was on the sticker, I wouldn’t have purchased the vehicle! I will end this discussion here in this CX-30 thread.

All snapshots in 2018 and 2019 on the web archive of the mazdausa.com website show that they disclosed CD. Nothing was hidden. No need of more conspiracy theories. End of discussion.

My 2020 CX-30 US Preferred Trim acquired in February 2020

I especially like the "Greige" interior (stupid name for a color, though). White dogs and black seats are not a good combination since they show every white hair. Still, dog or no dog the combination of black, dark steel blue and beige feels like a very upscale look to me.

Fergus settles in to his new ride.

The only downside is getting used to having not much space. There is just enough, but on road trips it will be a tight squeeze with two adults, a dog, a cooler with drinks and sandwiches, and two suitcases in the back. That will all fit - but barely. Extras like hiking boots and winter coats will have to be managed carefully.
Isn't the Soul Red amazing? We live near 17 miles of trails so we park our car at one of them everyday and just walk. When we return back we can see our CX-30 from miles away because of how it glows!
