I'm also thinking of downsizing to the CX-30. I have a 2019 CX-5 GTR (turbo) right now. So the CX-30 does not have a folding side mirrors? Really? That's a deal breaker for me!

Thanks.

Didn't you just recently upgrade from the non-turbo CX-5 to the turbo CX-5? If you think switching to the CX-30, and it seems you like high torque, so I would wait until the turbo version of the CX-30 is out. Otherwise, it will be costly to switch first to non-turbo CX-30 and then to turbo CX-30.

mazda_mc_dude, yes, I upgraded to 2019 CX-5 turbo and I’m very happy with the performance. I don’t have to downshift anymore on uphills in MO, NM, AZ, and CO. However, I’m usually the only one doing this crosscountry drive every month (I’m retired). My wife has the bigger CX-5 if I need more room. I was thinking that with the non-turbo CX-30 which is lighter than the CX-5, the 2.5L engine, which is basically the same engine as the non-turbo CX-5, would be able to negotiate those hills easily! I know I’ll be missing these featrures/amenities: heated steering wheel, touch screen, ventilated seats which is good on the butt and back summer time, passenger power seat, trunk space, rear USB outlets, auto-folding mirrors, etc., but I can do without it.

Maybe I’ll take your suggestion to wait for the turbo version and maybe at that time the features I will be missing will be added by the time a turbo version comes out.

Hope your family and friends are safe from the coronavirus.

Regards.

Edit 14-Mar-2020 : BTW, I was at the dealer yesterday, to have my wife’s 2019 CX-5 GT turbo serviced for oil/filter change, and sat on a CX-30 in the showroom - the CX-30 has manual folding side mirrors.

How did you like the CX-30 in general compared to the CX-5?

Your tires might be over-inflated. Usually the dealer sets the tires to very high pressure. You could check that and see if it improves.

Tires are fine. Its not that it is not smooth, its that the ride never seems to settle down especially at lower speeds. Its kinda jeep like.I do not know if its the wheels or if it is just the suspension setup. As said otherwise it is a very nice vehicle.

Tire pressure at 36 psi .I lowered it to 34 psi bit better but still a bit jittery.Bad uneven roads here do not help either.By the way thanks to all for your replies.

I know there are very few people in the forum due to the current crisis and I wanted to say I hope you and your families are well.

Our lease was coming up on our '17 CX-5 so we traded for a CX-30. We absolutely love it. The infotainment system is light years ahead of our CX-5. It handles much better due to the lower center of gravity. The interior feels even more premium than the CX-5 and the seats are more comfortable. The bolsters hold you in and it feels like you are sitting "in" the seats rather than "on" them. We were very happy with the Bose system in the CX-5 but the system in the CX-30 has more clarity. IMHO it feels like more car for less money. Mazda has hit it out of the park with its latest designs.

Of course there is less room but we don't really need it. Also, I still think the CX-5 is one of the nicest looking SUVs on the road. We went for it and got the Soul Red Crystal and it continually amazes us. I did something I haven't done in years and waxed it myself today.

It was very weird going into the dealership. They only had 2 salesman there working by appointment only. They completely wiped down the car and keys with sanitizer prior to delivery. I wasn't looking forward to trading cars but the CX-30 has been the one bright spot in this whole situation. Thumbs up from me!
