Help. Doing a rear brake job on a 1999 Mazda B3000, 10” shoes. Unable to put new drums on because the shoes spread out at the top when I replace the long spring across the bottom. Too tight a fit. What I am I doing wrong.

Have you made sure the adjuster is completely undone?

 

Thanks for the response. I think I have a bigger mess. Mazda Brakes B3000 1999 Duo-Servo brakes, I assume? Unable to place new drum on new rear shoes. I’ve discovered that there should be a front primary shoe and a secondary back shoe on each wheel. I think I installed them backwards. However, the pin that holds the e-brake cable is attached to the primary shoe which is now on the secondary (back) position. Is this assumption correct? Can I remove and replace the pin and install it on the on the secondary shoe once I flip them correctly? So I then have a larger front primary shoe and a smaller secondary back shoe? Photos are of the passenger’s side of vehicle.
