1990 Mazda b2600i difficult to start cold
Hi I just recently picked up a 1990 Mazda b2600i and everything worked great, up until recently when it started to get colder. Now that the temperature has dropped I have to spray starting fluid into the intake to get it started and once it does start it idles up like it should and runs great, and will start as long as the truck doesn't cool down to much (as it gets colder it takes longer to start). I am completely stumped on what could be causing this and was hoping someone could help here, can provide more details if needed. All help is appreciated
1. It's not your choke, because the B2600i doesn't have one !!!
2. Try turning the key to "Run" position for 5 seconds, then to "off", then repeat that twice more and try to start. This can help determine if there's a fuel delivery issue. When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?
3. Read the fuel pressure right after there's a failure to start.
4. Do you have the service manual, to check B2600i troubleshooting?

You need to follow the intake system, after the MAF Sensor and into the Throttle Body. You probably have a "leak" in the system. You don't want any air leaks in the intake duct system. There is a black plastic "Resonator Chamber" that has an O-ring to seal it to the aluminum air intake plenum......this is a known leak area if the O-ring is hard and brittle, and has never been replaced. There is also a 5/8" (approx) molded rubber hose that can crack and form a leak, also. It comes off of the side of the aluminum air plenum and runs under the resonator chamber.......you can use a short piece of the right diameter heater hose to temporarily replace a cracked hose, but you can still buy these new from Mazda I believe. It is easiest to unbolt the aluminum plenum and plastic chamber as one, then separate them. Let us know what you find!
I thought that to begin with so I already replaced the oe intake with a cold air intake the maf still is in line, I just replaced the fuel pump and think that might have fixed it will know tomorrow when it has sat for a while
