Default Power Steering Noise?

So I recently purchased my first pickup (and mazda) its got 174000 so its been around the block a few times. Aside from the radiator and clutch the thing has this wicked power steering howl. I've had a few people tell me that its one of mazda's unadvertised trademarks and that even replacing the pump won't help quell the racket. I'm getting the radiator fixed next week and would like to know whether or not I should just have them replace the pump as well. Any advice you guys have for me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

a lot of people never think to flush and fill the power steering fluid! - as a result it gets dirty and worn and starts damaging the pump. I would replace the pump, flush and fill liquid.
