BTW -- after my second in-tank fuel pump failed around 35K miles, I left the old in-tank pump in place and just plumbed in an external electric pump using the existing "hot" "gnd" wires from the in-tank pump. The old pump was never removed and it has never been a problem for the new external pump. The new pump just sucks the fuel through the old pump.
The truck has run over 200K miles with that pump and it feeds the new Weber flawlessly at 4-6 psi
