Mazda BT 50 & Pickup TrucksWhile Mazda may not be known for their trucks, they have always produced quality reliable trucks for both hauling cargo, or simply crusing. BT 50
Hello I have a Mazda B2200 1989 I recently acquired at 120,000mil. I was driving it to work the other day and the check engine light came on. The guy I bought it from told me not to worry about it. But I would feel better if I could read the code. Now I called Advanced Auto and they told me it doesn't have an OEM I or II connector. Is this true?
I was looking online and its simple enough to get an OEM 1 or 2. Is there perhaps an adapter? I wanted to ask you all thank you.
Advance Auto is correct......there are no codes. The CEL comes on about every 60,000 miles to get you to take it to a Mazda dealer so they can change the timing belt and make some money!
Here is what you need to do to reset the CEL to OFF.
Look under the dash on the Driver's side, and ABOVE this.....
Look for this bundled wiring harness......
NOW.......do you see the THREE single pin wire connectors? Two are WHITE connectors........and one is a BLACK connector. Whichever two connectors that are plugged together on your truck........unplug them AND plug the UNUSED connector back into the other connector. This is EXACTLY what the Mazda dealership would do, after they changed your timing belt.
So, to recap.....if you currently have the two white connectors plugged together on your truck like the above picture shows.......when you unplug them, you should plug the black connector into one of the white connectors. On the other hand.....if you have a black connected to a white currently, then when you unplug them, you would plug the two white connectors back together.
In other words.......all that you have to do to turn the CEL OFF again.......is to SWAP a couple of wires!!! It really IS that EASY!
It may be a good time to change the timing belt also........since that is what the CEL light is all about anyway. BUT......rest assured......these Mazda B2200 engines (F2) have a NON-interference engine valvetrain......so if the timing belt does ever break.....you won't bend any valves......but the engine will die, and won't start again.....until you correctly install a new timing belt!
