Replacing my sons shot gearbox in my 88 b2600 4x4 with a GB from a 1990 B2600i

Turns out that it wont go in because of to long inputshaft when change of bellhousing.

Tryed to cut 10 mm off but now it feels like the splines are bottoming out against the centerbearing.

I have as I see it two options.
Grind down the top off the splines och removing centerbearing.

The new gearbox is only temporary and will be swapped as soon I find another.

How long does a gerabox last without centerbearing?

Its a special youth-car restricted to 30 km/h and gears 4 and 5 are restricted.

Runs mostly on 3rd gear around 1500 rpm.

Where ya at ?I've never heard of a youth car. Id say just get a dremel an grind down or just be super careful when engaging gear.

 

Is it possible that the bell housings and input shafts are interchangeable? I mean, if the input shaft on the old trans is ok, maybe it will interchange along with the belhousing to make a hybrid assembly that fits properly.

I for one, would not run it without a properly fitting pilot bearing that is engaged in the input shaft like it should be.
