Default Crack in console plate

About 15 years ago, at the parts yard I picked up a large gray console for my 1988 B2200 Cab Plus.

I realize that this might have come from a B2600i, cannot remember. Anyway, I have a crack in the circled part now, and was wondering if anyone ever made a thin wood replacement for this for their truck?

It does appear that this assembly shown as 64-340 is still available as part #UC8464340 09 but over $100 plus shipping, not sure I want to go that route. Or maybe I can try plastic welding from the underside. Ideas, please !!!

Why not pull it out JB Weld it. Sand it and repaint it?
It would however be easy enough you cut a wood panel and also glue it right on top of the complete plate. Or even better would be textured plastic?

I believe that the plastic is either polyethylene or polypropylene, and glues and epoxies don't play nice/adhere to those.
A panel to go on top of the plastic is a decent idea though, thanks. What is this textured plastic, and where would it be available?

To get JB weld to stick you must use 100 grit preferably wet sandpaper. Then wipe the area with xylene or acetone just enough to create an unsmooth surface. JB Weld will adhere very nicely.

Here is only one example of the textured plastic. I use various thickness for many projects, and it away come out very nice. It is easy to cut with a ultra fine jig saw blade. But you have to be careful not to make heat from cutting our the plastic will melt and weld up behind your blade as your cutting.

This can also be obtained if you have a plastic shop in your area. We have TAP PLASTIC here close to where I am. I often go to the scrap bin for my projects and pick up a bunch of plastic cheap!!

One MAZDA project using the textured plastic Although in the end I did sand it smooth and even polished it. # 4

BTW in you pictures I would even go so far to simp-ly use a solder gun and do a little plastic welding on the break. Fill is in with JB Weld and then sand the complete panel and paint it.
