B3000 emissions woes (P01443)...
1996 Mazda B3000 3.0, and regardless of the code, this truck runs great!
rant:
Working on a P01443 EVAP code(Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected)
Seems like every 2 years I get this when it's time for a SMOG in california and I've fixed it in the past.
background:
I can only find parts for for a 1996 Ford Ranger 3.0. MY understanding is that these trucks are the same except for trim, badges, etc. I've seen more than one place that has the ranger parts but not the mazda parts. They look identical.
For example, here's the purge valve solenoid and they say it fits the 1996 ford ranger 3.0 but NOT the 1996 Mazda B3000 3.0.
2-terminal-canister-purge-valve-solenoid
It's the same for other related emissions EVAP parts. ok for Ranger but not B3000
questions:
Are they really different? Are they interchangeable? If not, where can you find Mazda parts?
The Mazda B3000 parts seem to be discontinued everywhere.
thx

Simple solution and I am surprised no one suggest this when you went for your bi-annual emission test?
Parts Locator Service (PLS) – Ask the Ref
Parts Locator Service (PLS) – Ask the Ref
If you fail after they enter your VIN in the Emission BAR required system, then you will not be able to re-teat at an independent Emission test shop and will be required to go to a California emission test center. The problem with that is they are 100% by the regulation and if there is anything that is not acceptable, they don't give you warning only a fail.
The key is the part description OEM! technically speaking unless the part is from Mazda/Ford then you are not really responsible to buy and install it to pass smog. But the exemption would only be short term. The better way is to have the State Of CA permanently give you a wavier . But you may still be required to at least report something every 2 years with the ARB? Sorry I am no longer as of last year certified for emission testing and the test requirements changed 3 years ago. Was not worth my $ to recertify anymore.
If I could find the parts, I'd just try and fix it since that'd be the easiest thing. So far though, no luck!
So if I can't find the parts, I don't really understand how to get a permanent waver.
@Callisto - Would you mind laying out the steps to get a permanent waiver?

It helps when applying for the waiver is have the shop doing the future emission test work with you. This way they know they have a customer and will also want to help. Most shops now are no pass no pay. So if you pass they get your cash !
