The alternator belt broke and I need to replace it. I took the whole radiator out and still couldn't get the new alternator belt on, I cut the bottom water hose and had to replace it. It runs but it heats up fast and will not hold chrage. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

It sounds like the belt is too short. Try getting a longer belt.

 

If your car is overheating and isnt charging, your belt is not tight enough therefore yout alternator is not spinning fast enough to keep your car charged and your fan isnt spinning fast enough to keep it cool. Belt adjustment is done bt loosening the bolts holding your alternator on and using a tire tool or large screwdriver to tighten the pressure on the belt then retighten bolts. Be sure that your belt is the proper size.Also be sure the small belt tensioner pulley(left side front of engine) is working properly. BJ
