Default B2500 4x4 engagement problem'

Hi, I've recently bought a 2000 B2500 Dbl cab with 110,000 miles. very happy witth it but now I've got it in snow I've found I cant engage 4 wheel drive. If I put it in 4 low it definately is in low but the front wheels dont engage. So in 4 wheel high or low I'm still in 2wd. The RFW light doesn't come on but the 4wd light does. The fuse is ok. Any help and where to get a workshop manual would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rob.

I got the same problem on my mazda 4x4. Some research says theres a drive chain in the transfer box that damaged. Still needs to be opened and checked though.

My local Mazda dealer told me to strip the free wheeling hubs. It turned out that it was a vacuum switch. Mine is Right hand drive and on the brake servo there are a couple of black plastic boxes with rubber pipework attached. One of these had snapped off. I fixed it with a couple of small pieces of aluminium tube and reconnected it. It works fine now.

Take a good look at the vacuum hoses and make sure there are no leaks as it is this that locks in the 4WD.

Hope this helps.
