Default 1998 b2500 temp question

Hi, new here. So I drive around town, and the temp guage goes up to normal operating temp. Then i turn off the engine for like 4 minutes. Then I start the engine again and the temp guage is low low, to the cold, like it is being started up first thing in the morning. And then it slowly rises to normal in a minute or so again. Why does it go so low after driving it for 20 minutes in town?

Thanks.

Welcome!

I think I would start by checking the temp with a infrared thermometer gun, especially if your going off of the factory temp gauge. Compare what your getting from both sources and make sure that the factory gauge is indeed correct......or close to it. If not, it could be that the factory temp sensor is bad or going bad. Let us know what you find out.
