1993 b2200 instrument guages (speedometer)
aloha everyone,
my speedometer, for reasons known only to the speedometer, decided recently to start the speedometer needle at 45 mph rather than that boring old 0 mph. when i turned the truck off it would stop at 45 mph.
i checked the vss which was good but the speedometer cable was pretty funky so i replaced the speedometer cable. after changing the cable the needle was still at 45 mph. so i removed the cluster glass to check if the needle was broken or stuck. i tapped the center of the needle with my finger and it immediately fell to uh, i'll call it -20 mph. it passed about 1 " below zero mph. the good news is my speedometer now works. so instead of adding 45 to get my current speed i just have to deduct 20 to get my speed.
so my question is, does anybody know a fix for this, or trick, or the actual repair? Is this normal or is the gauge broken? can the gauge be reset or re calibrated without adding another component? some one suggested turning the cable wire until the needle is at zero. it actually worked until i tried to insert the tightened cable into the trans without it spinning back to where it was. yes it was three stooges auto mechanics!
i welcome all suggestions, comments, questions that could help. thanks in advance
