Default 1993 Speedometer Cable. What to purchase?

This is a tangent from my instrument cluster thread. Before I pull the cluster I want to fix the speedo cable first. If I'm correct I believe I need both:

BTAR-60-080 and
BTAR-60-070

Am I correct?

The piece that has the electrical connector with the plastic gear is the speed sensor. If it's working correctly, no need to change it. Those are the correct part numbers for the two piece cable. I would source the dealer to get the updated cables. Parts are located on Mazda's TSB # T017/96. Ordering either number will get you BOTH cables. If you order both numbers, you'll end up with 2 sets.

Did you find a failure when you took that apart?

I'm not following you on "electrical connector". The pictures are the lower speedo cable housing that connects to the transmission, and the upper cable that goes into the firewall. I did pull the part out that has the plastic gear. It seemed to be fine so I reinstalled it.

I haven't pulled out the cluster yet. I want to get the cable addressed first.

Cheers,
Gary

My bad, I'm so use to seeing speed sensors that I'm starting to forget what a regular speedometer gear looks like. oops

I installed the new cable on Saturday. I purchased the parts from a local Mazda dealership as I wanted to make sure I got the right parts. On-line was cheaper, but I wasn't always clear if I was looking at the newer or older parts. There are two cables; a lower cable and the upper cable. Retail cost was about $110 for both, but they gave me the price I found on-line with shipping, so all worked out fine.
