Hello all new to the forum just got myself a old Mazda diesel truck anyone have one or know where to find info about it. Seems really rare the the diesel part for sure also it is my first diesel. She is old the suspension is shot and it leaks coolant hope to have some new truck tires, an oil change and coolant flush to repair the leaky hose get her ready for winter.

Turns out that the fluid is not leaking out of the hose but maybe the water pump. I am no expert and this is my first diesel but is it hard to change a water pump? This engine has S2 stamped on the block i think and from what little if any info i have been able to find it has gear driven timing. That means it a real diesel by grandfather standards right? ford code name the endro? Think this would make it worthwile to do to do a water pump i mean gears for timing my other car is a mazda rx-7 the whole gear thing seems to make sense. On the flip side chains and belts seem like a really great way to sell people new engines.

I had an Escort with the same engine that was also an 84 model. The engine ran great but slow on acceleration. If I remember correctly, the injector pump is on back of the engine and driven by a small timing belt on the back of the cam. This does not mean that it's not a real diesel though. I know what you mean by gears...as in a Cummins for example.
