HELLO. I JUST PURCHASED A 91 B2200 FOR ONLY $500! THIS IS GONNA BE MY TRUCK I LEARN TO BE MORE AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICALLY INCLINED, LOL!

SO HERE IS MY PROBLEM....
EVERYTIME I START IT UP, IT BLOWS SMOKE OUT THE EXHAUST FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES. IT ALSO IDLES HIGH WHILE IT'S WARMING UP.

AFTER IT'S WARMED UP, THE SMOKE STOPS AND THE IDLE GOES BACK DOWN, THEN ITS JUST FINE. EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE TRUCK IS GREAT!!! I JUST NEED SUM HELP ON WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WHAT I NEED TO FIX IT. THANKS A BUNCH!!!

What color smoke? Blue = oil, Black = fuel, White = coolant.

Do yourself a favor and run a compression check on each cylinder.

You need 2 people. The compression gauge screws in where your spark plugs go, you check the cylinders 1 at a time by cranking the engine (without the coil wire attached). One person operates the ignition, the other watches the gauge and takes the readings. They should be fairly consistent cylinder to cylinder.

Black would be excess fuel. A stuck choke is a good place to start.

Fix the black smoke first, if it still has trouble running with no smoke, then go ahead and do the compression check.

Check the timing also. I have had those trucks so far out of time they smoked like that cold. The vacuum advance in the distributor and or the breaker plate are also suspect as well as the coil. You can remove the distributor cap and pull a vacuum on the vac advance to see if it is moving. The coil is very old so if it has not been replaced i would replace it. Pretty cheap and it is a maintenance item in my world.
