Default O/D Flashing Light

My Mazda 626 2.0 626 has an O/D off light Flashes on Highway trips when it reaches 170 miles and the transmission jurks on changing gears. It eventually goes off at the completion of the trip. I have no check engine light. Could this be a sensor and if so which one. Can anyone help?

Thanks

What year is your 626? On some vehicles, the O/D light acts as a check transmission light...
Have you checked your fluid level/condition?

I have a 2001 626 mazda 144,000 miles. Also I took it to Aamaco Transmission they told me that my oil was good and they need to check further into it because it could be 4/5 problems. My car runs fine otherwise except for long highway runs as I stated. Thanks for your reply.

I caution anyone dealing with Aamco after the mess my mom faced after taking her Ford Probe to one for a transmission rebuild. Her experience may be an isolated one. They closed within 2 years, so could be.
- cv axle not properly installed (nut to hub fell off within a week)
- hard 2-3 shift, constantly, refused to honor warranty. She contacted Aamco head office, but they didn't do anything or contact her again.
Hope they do a better job for you, if you have them fix it.
I'd suggest fluid/filter change. Could be a sensor, but seems odd one would mess up only after driving 170 miles.
That's all the advice I can relay. Best of luck!
Am curious to hear what the problem is...
