Default Mazda 626 Stereo cutting out

Hi everyone,im new to the forum and have done a quick search to see if my problem is common but cant find any answers at the moment.
Basically i own a Mazda 626 2.0 GSI 1996(R) and it has an aftermarket stereo. The stereo(Pioneer) was fitted about 4 years ago and has recently started cutting out. I decided to change the stereo to an alpine unit thinking the problem would be sorted, but it does exactly the same. So now i believe it to be the cars wiring (the stereo has been connected correctly with the proper connector blocks and no wires have been cut). It cuts out for no apparent reason and im getting quite bored now when out driving with no tunes.
Any help appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Default RE: Mazda 626 Stereo cutting out

when the stereo "cuts out" does the stereo go off? or does it stay on only sound goes off?
if it goes off then check the grounding of the stereo. The mains could also be a problem but usually isn't.
Get a wire connect to the ground wire of stereo and bolt it somewhere to the body if problem goes away its the ground if not its the main.
If stereo stays on but sound goes off then you need to check all the wires going to the speakers. one of them may be chaffed somewhere and touching the metal part of the body somewhere.
