Default 99 626 CLUTCH PEDAL WONT RETURN

wifes car she said pedal went to floor would not return. I drove it home by shifting at proper RPMS. No visible leaks but I Replaced SLAVE & MASTER. Same problem the pedal wont return. I am pretty postitve problem is inside trans but I wonder if Pedal assembly or return spring on pedal is broken (under dash). I cant fit my head down there to see and there is no pieces spring around but just curious if any body has had a simular problem. Ijust dont want to replace clutch and find out my pedal still wont return. THANKS for any input

I'm just throwing this out here, but it does sound like you have a bad pressure plate diaphram spring.
had it been a cable operated system, which is what I was originally thinking, that would solve the problem.

When youpulledthe original MC, did the pedal spring back on it's own then?

Did you try using a hand-held mirror and a flashlight to see under the dash and look at the clutch pedal?

I have the same problem on my 2000 626. I'm pretty sure it must be a return spring as when I pulled the pedal up by hand, it allowed me to shift into 1st gear with no problems but again, the pedal stayed on the floor. I managed to slip the transmission into 5th once I was moving without using the clutch and gently used the accelerator to bring me up to highway speed. 2.5 ltr v6 had enough power to allow me to do this without straining or lugging the engine. I doubt it is the pressure plate springs that are at fault as they were able to push the throw out bearing back in order to engage the clutch. Any idea as to where the clutch return spring is located would be appreciated as I have two feet of snow on the ground and the temp' is currently sitting at -10C so I don't really want to be laying down inside the car with my backside in a snow bank trying to locate said spring.

They don't use a return spring nor need one. The pressure on the TOB from the pressure plate is sufficient times 10,000 to push the dinky pedal back. Sounds more like a master cylinder bypassing fluid or air in the line.

You could be right on that count mate as thinking back, I did have a little trouble shifting gears a few minutes before the pedal dropped to the floor on a downshift. I think I'll take it over to my buddy's place and bleed the slave cylinder to see if that helps, if not then I guess it's a new clutch master cylinder, it's as cheap to buy a rebuilt as to rebuild one yourself, well, almost but definitely a lot less aggravation and it's only held in with two bolts, I just replaced one on my daughter's Ford Focus last year so it's no big deal.
