My 98 626 stalls when the ac is turned on at idle after the engine has warmed-up. This problem started after I had the intake manifold gasket changed. Engine idles smooth at 600 rpm. AC seems to drag the engine to a stall. Runs OK during normal driving.

 

How is your battery and your alternator ??? Maybe check and see if they are puting out enough power to run the a/c

 

Anyways cheapest way to fix the problem would be to not let it idle with the a/c on :P

 

Alternator is working fine. Thanks for the obvious "fix" info about not idling with the AC on.

I recently took the car to a local shop. They said that it looked to them like the computor was sending a signal to the idle control valve to drop rather than increase the idle when the AC runs. They admitted to be stumped and suggested I take the car to a Mazda dealer. This is the same shop that repaired the intake manifold gasket. They said that the recent problem is not related to the gasket repair. The car actually acts like no signal is getting to the ICV when the AC is on since the engine boggs down when the AC runs. Would the valve have been removed to replace the gasket?
