I am thinking of buying an older mazda 626 or mx6, something with the 2.2 12 valve. Was just wondering what kinds of things i should look at when buying, any areas these cars are known to have problems? I learned to drive in an 88 626 and loved the car! Shes still going but i dont know for how much longer. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Years ago, nearly 20 now, I too was in the market for one of these 1st gen 626's, and from my experience the MX-6 just feels and drives better, but of course is only a 2-door. If you can deal with that, my recommendation would be to search out an MX-6 over a 626 sedan.
Other than that, no matter what you get it's going to be old and in need of everything from new brake lines to perhaps an engine rebuild. And too, these are not considered classics so some parts/pieces may be hard to come by.
Are you sure you're up for all that? Are you sure its really worth it to you? I think you need to ask yourself these questions before buying what will undoubtedly be a project car that won't be worth near what you have into it.
