Not getting a lot of replies -- are you?

These types of 'repairs' are usually used by people trying to pass a damaged engine off onto someone else. It is a dirty trick that few want to be associated with. I have never used one of these additives, but I've heard of people getting temporary relief from products such as K&W Metallic Block & Head Gasket Sealer or RXAuto Thermagasket.

A head gasket job on a four cylinder transverse motor is easy compared to a transverse V6 due to the following reasons:
  • There is one head gasket instead of two
  • The front head on a V6 is typically easy, the rear head can be a righteous pain in the hind parts due to the location of the exhaust manifold, its bolts/studs vis-à-vis the firewall.
  • The location of the rear head typically means that you need to lean pretty far into the engine bay to work on it, and that can lead to a sore back.

there is absolutly NO "quick fix" that id ever use. if something is broken, fix it right the first time.

Don't waste your time with a gasket repair kit in a bottle. Just replace the gasket.

I am curious why the head gasket is blown. If the engine has been overheated and this caused the problem? If so don't bother with the mechanic in a bottle. It will most likely not work and if it does it will be only temporary. Replacing the head gasket can be done yourself but it is not that easy. First if the engine has been overheated the head will have to be checked as overheating causes the head to warp most of the time. The warped head causes the head gasket to separate in the offending area, thus the leak. Usually this is not a good thing and can get costly. Once the head is removed and taken to a good machine shop specializing in head repair and once again planed level it must be reinstalled correctly. There are special tools required to get the cam timed correctly. One of the most important duties to do is find out for sure what caused the problem in the first place. It is suggested that unless you are a skilled mechanic take it to someone who is. Lots of Ford dealers and mechanics around with the proper tools and skills to do this for you. If you want a reliable auto and plan on keeping the car get it done right.
