Angry Wanting to Sell Mazda But Need To Resolve An Issue...

My 1995 Mazda Protege has been acting funny and I need to get ifxed before I sell it. I am hoping that I can get some help on this forum as I have done my research and haven't seen anything as good as this forum.
Here's where it started...I started my car up one moring and drove off, didn't warm it up enough but was ready to go. When I came to a sudden stop at the stop sign it stopped idling. As if it shifted itself into nuetral. So when it was my time to go it reved up and would not shift into first gear. I found myself and my children sevral time stuck at a stop waving people on because the car would not budge. after about 30 seconds or so the car shifts itself back into gear and I take off like nothing ever happend untill the next stop. I've driven it off and on since this started happening and noticed that if I come "slowely" to stop then this gives the car enough time to remember what it's supposed to do. I can then leave the stop sign or light regular. Not sure what this is but I'm hoping that I don't have to buy a whole new tranny.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
Teresa

Hi there , this sounds like a Automatic transmission fault , have you checked the Auto transmission oil? you do this by checking the oil level when the vehicle is running and in the park postion. if the oil looks dirty or smells really bad then Bad news the auto box may require overhauling. Let me know what you find please.
