Default Transmission issues?

Hi Folks... this is my first post here. LOVE the new Mazda 3's but I have some questions before buying. Someone I spoke with recently said he worked for Mazda for about a year selling cars. He said that Mazda use to offer a 5 year, 50,000 mile warranty but has recently gone to a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty due to a large amount of transmission trouble in Mazda's in general. He said that his own Mazda's transmission went out at 46,000 miles and that many were going out between 45-50,000 miles. Is this true or doo doo?

Do any of you have that experience? What is your opinion? I really, really, really like the Phantom Purple Mazda 3 with tan interior. AWESOME looking ride!!! I'm happy with the reported mileage although it would be nice if it could compete with the 2007 Nissan Sentra
.

I'm debating between the 2. The Nissan comes with a ton of extras included, the Mazda has MUCH cooler styling, dashboard, etc. with a little lower mpg rating. Any thoughts?

Practical: Nissan
GROOVIN' car: Mazda
.... so I need to clear up the transmission rumors. Any help, advice, etc. GREATLY appreciated! Thanks & God Bless
