Default Timing specs and procedure 95 929?

What is the timing supposed to be on 95 929 and aside from hooking the light up to #1 plug wire is there anything else that needs to be done. I read something about having to ground some wire on the diagnostic plug? Is that necessary and what does it do? How accurate does it have to be set? Doesn't the ECU constantly adjust the timing? Thanks

Need to get engine to operating temperature and then ground the TEN pin of the diagnostic tester as shown in the diagram below. Grounding the pin takes PCM control out so that base ignition timing can be set. Without the pin grounded you should be seeing timing between 7-20 'BTDC. Once the TEN pin has been grounded and computer control removed base timing should be at 12 'BTDC +- 1' or 11-13 BTDC. While the TEN pin is grounded go ahead and check base idle speed as well. Should be 700rpm.
